MW Women's Soccer Players of the Week TCU's Jordan Calhoun and Katie Taylor earn the awards
Sept. 12, 2011 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU senior forward Jordan Calhoun has been named Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while TCU senior defender Katie Taylor has garnered MW Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Calhoun, a native of Norman, Okla., scored the game-winning goals in a pair of 1-0 victories to help lead TCU to the 2011 Red Raider Classic Championship last weekend in Lubbock, Texas. Calhoun was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the tournament after tallying game-winning scores against Toledo and Hofstra on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Against the Rockets, Calhoun scored on TCU’s only shot on goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 68th minute. Calhoun returned to the field on Sunday to net her second game-winner of the weekend, placing the ball in goal during the 81st minute of action against the Pride. Hailing from Escondido, Calif., Taylor paced a TCU defense that pitched a pair of shutouts over the weekend. Taylor and the Horned Frog backline limited scoring opportunities for Toledo and Hofstra throughout the weekend slate. In the Hofstra match, the TCU defense blocked nine shots before they could reach the goalkeeper. The senior defender was named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Red Raider Classic and selected to the all-tournament team. Taylor was also aggressive on the offensive side of the field, netting four shots, including two on goal, against the Pride.
