Change of Pace
Wyoming has started the 2000 season with a 2-1-1 record, marking the best start in the soccer program¹s history. In the 5-1 victory over Eastern Washington on Sept. 1, the Cowgirls had their highest goal total in at least three seasons. Wyoming hopes to continue its winning ways with home matches this week against Marshall and Portland State.
Record Breakers
Air Force demolished the Mountain West Conference single-match record for goals with its 14-0 win over at Youngstown State on Aug. 27. The previous record was eight goals set by BYU vs. Northwestern in 1999. Air Force junior MF Carrie Wellman also established a new MWC individual single-match record with five assists in that match.
Play Makers
Utah¹s Amy Kofoed (Jr., F/MF) and Katie Tate (So., F) have been the play makers for the Utes through the first five matches of the season. Kofoed (3) and Tate (4) have combined to score seven of the Utes nine goals this year.
San Diego State¹s Nicole Findlay has been a great addition for the Aztecs this season. The junior midfielder transfered from Santa Rosa Junior College and had scored three of SDSU¹s four goals on the season. In her first week of action at San Diego State, Findlay scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Mississippi and earned the MWC Player of the Week honor.
First Impressions
1999 National High School Player of the Year Aleisha Cramer made a great first impression at BYU scoring two goals and adding an assist in the the season opening 7-1 victory over Weber State.
Freshman MF Erika Palmer scored her first collegiate goal in Air Force¹s season opener at Pittsburgh. The Falcons dropped the match 3-2.
Century Mark
BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood needs just four victories to reach the
100-win mark for her career. She is currently 96-23-1 in just over five
seasons in Provo. Entering this season, Rockwood was ranked fifth among
active coaches by winning percentage. She has averaged 18.6 wins per season over the past five years, which ranks second behind only Anson Dorrance of North Carolina for wins per season. Dorrance has won an average of 22.2 matches per season.
