Aug. 29, 2011

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

San Diego State freshman forward Haley Locker has been named Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while SDSU redshirt junior defender Tiffany Hurst has garnered MW Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Locker, a native of Seattle, Wash., tallied three points last weekend to lead San Diego State to home victories over Minnesota (2-1) and No. 4 Portland (1-0) on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, respectively. In Friday’s matchup with the Golden Gophers, Locker scored the game-winner in the 84th minute, tucking the ball into the lower right corner of the net from five yards out. Two days later against the Pilots, Locker assisted on Hurst’s game-winning score in the 25th minute, helping the Aztecs to their first victory over a top-10 team since knocking off No. 8 BYU on Nov. 7, 2009.

Hailing from Santa Rosa, Calif., Hurst’s contributions on both sides of the field last weekend helped guide the Aztecs to a pair of wins at SDSU Sports Deck. In Friday’s victory against Minnesota, Hurst assisted on the game-winner when she found Locker in the 84th minute of play. In the match vs. No. 4 Portland, Hurst scored the lone goal of the contest, knocking a shot into the left corner of the net in the 25th minute of action to propel San Diego State to victory. While playing the backline, Hurst and the Aztecs’ defensive unit blanked the Pilots, marking the first time Portland has been shutout since Nov. 28, 2008.
