COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In a vote by the league's coaches, BYU was selected to win the 2008 Mountain West Conference women's soccer title in the preseason poll released today by the conference office.

The Cougars collected 49 points and seven first-place votes to capture the top spot in the poll. UNLV, last year's MWC regular-season champion, collected 39 points and received one first-place vote to earn the second slot. San Diego State and Utah were predicted to tie for third place with 36 points apiece, followed by TCU fifth with 24 points. New Mexico was ranked sixth (17 points), while Wyoming (16 points) and Air Force (7 points) rounded out the top eight.

Last season, the Cougars were crowned the MWC Tournament Champions and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. BYU finished the 2007 campaign with a 17-4-2 record after making its 10th postseason appearance. The squad returns all-MWC first-team selections Katie Larkin, Andrea Willis and Kassidy Christensen. UNLV returns 16 letterwinners and six starters, including first-team all-conference member Brie Kuhne. Last year's Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Tamika Wilson, will return for Wyoming, while the Aztecs will welcome back the Defensive and Freshman Player of the Year, Aubree Southwick.

The 2008 MWC Women's Soccer Championship will take place on the UNLV campus, Nov. 5-8.
