LAS VEGAS - More than 2,500 fans packed into Peter Johann Memorial Field this past Saturday night to watch Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids battle to a 0-0 draw in the first MLS game on the campus of UNLV.

It was the finale of a soccer triple-header that also featured the UNLV men's and women's teams in contest before the MLS exhibition, which gave the crowd an up close look at the professional game.

Despite the blank scoreboard both clubs had their chances of scoring goals. Hercules Gomez nearly provided the Rapids with a first half goal when he picked off a pass in front of the RSL net. Goalkeeper Nick Rimando was there to handle the shot though, keeping the game scoreless.

Just 12 minutes later, RSL's Eddie Pope missed one a shot that went over the crossbar off a rebound from a Chris Kline rocket on goal.

Although the Rapids were left shorthanded for most of the second half after Brandon Prideaux was sent off the field for his second yellow, they were able to keep RSL out of the net.

During stoppage time the young RSL star Freddy Adu, an obvious favorite among the youth teams along the sidelines, was able to find Kenny Cutler who almost ended the game in dramatic fashion only to be denied when his shot hit the crossbar.

In the end both clubs earned shutouts in their final preseason match.
