UNM Women's Soccer Has 12 Named Academic All-Conference
Lobos honored for outstanding work in the classroom
March 5, 2007 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico women's soccer finished the fall semester with a 3.42 team grade point average and had 12 student-athletes named Academic All-Mountain West Conference. Lobo women's soccer had the second most players honored of any team at UNM. In 2006, UNM concluded back-to-back winning season after finish tied for third in the league standings. The Lobos concluded the year with a trip to the semi-finals of the MWC Championship and had one of the most successful seasons in school history. "Our players are here for school and soccer and I'm very proud of their success on and off the field," said UNM head coach Kit Vela. "We hope to have continued success in both areas in the years to come. This is truly a tribute to their dedication and work ethic everyday this fall." The Lobos honored by the MWC include Alanna Abeyta, Shannon Adragna, Terryn Granados, Kellee Hafner, Hannah Hand, Katelyn Ley, Ashley Lowery, Anna Neu, Markee Nobriga, Eryn Paetz, Veronika Strnadova and Amber Wetsch. All the student-athletes were vital to the recent success of the women's soccer program. A total of 363 student-athletes were named to the fall 2006 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. UNM placed 40 student-athletes on the list, the third-highest representation in the MWC. Fall sports include men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
