Nov. 8, 2003
SALT LAKE CITY - The regular season conference champion and No. 1-seed Utah Utes defeated the second-seeded BYU Cougars, 2-0, in the finals of the 2003 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship today at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The Utes captured their first league tournament title with the win over the Cougars and will receive the automatic bid into the 2003 NCAA Women's College Cup. After a scoreless first half, senior midfielder Amber Brower opened up the scoring for the Utes in the 60th-minute with her goal into the left corner from 10 yards out. Nearly 30 minutes later, Utah sealed its victory when freshman forward Amanda Feigt sailed a shot over Cougar goalkeeper Ashley Smith's head and into the net. Utah freshman goalkeeper Ashley Mason tallied her second straight shutout over the Cougars and her seventh of the season, holding BYU scoreless for only the fourth time on the year.
