Nov. 6, 2002

PROVO, Utah - After 88 minutes of tough soccer, the No. 24 Utah women's team was able to finally score a goal to beat the Wyoming Cowgirls 1-0 in the first game of the Mountain West Conference Championship on Wednesday.

The Utes (12-2-3, 4-1-1) finished the game with 30 shots on goal, compared to Wyoming's six. Shauna Gurr-Bingham scored the only goal of the game in the 88th minute. Gurr-Bingham finished the game with 10 shots on goal, but it was on the last shot that she was able to finally put it past Wyoming goalkeeper Lori Scheider and lift the Utes to a first-round victory.

Utah had many opportunities to score earlier in the game, but was denied by Scheider on many occasions. Scheider finished the game with 14 saves.

Utah will now face the winner of the New Mexico/Air Force game at 4:30 on Thursday afternoon at South Field on the BYU campus.
