#3 TCU Defeats #6 San Diego State, 2-1 OT, in First Round of MWC Tournament TCU advances to the semifinals vs. #2 Utah Thursday

The third-seeded TCU Horned Frogs (14-3-2) needed extra time and a golden goal to win its first-round match in the MWC Women's Soccer Tournament against the sixth-seeded San Diego State Aztecs (6-10-3). TCU's Jackie Torda provided the game-winner in the 98th minute (97:14) after picking up a loose ball in front of the Aztec goal. With the win, TCU will play the second-seeded Utah Utes at noon on Thursday, Nov. 6. The game will be televised live on The Mtn. This was the second meeting between the teams in just a week, as TCU also won the regular-season match Oct. 31 match by a 2-1 score. "It was a battle," noted TCU head coach Dan Abdalla. "It's always tough to play back-to-back against the same team. We have always played San Diego State hard. We just need to regroup and prepare for tomorrow's match now." TCU's Katie Taylor sparked the team's offense in overtime with a shot that was saved by San Diego State's Christi Yount. Amongst a scrum of players, the Horned Frog's Cheryl Martin picked up the rebound and shot the ball towards the goal only to have it saved by a SDSU defender. Torda found the ball at her foot and promptly placed the game-winner into the net. TCU provided the first scoring of the day after breaking a 30-minute scoreless stalemate in the opening half. Jordan Calhoun and Lizzy Karoly demonstrated a perfect give-and-go to give the Horned Frogs a 1-0 lead. Calhoun took the pass and deposited the ball into the left post from the right side in the 31st minute (30:37). The goal was the 15th of the season for Calhoun, who became TCU's all-time single-season goal scorer on the play. The Aztecs tied things up in early in the second half as Cat Walker was able to put the equalizer into the back of the net on a blast in the 51st minute (50:23). Walker ran untouched through the left side of the box and crossed the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
