SALT LAKE CITY - The fifth-seeded Rebels of UNLV defeated the fourth-seeded San Diego State Aztecs, 2-1, in the third quarterfinal match of the day at the 2003 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Rebels took an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute by senior defender/midfielder Erin Egertson (assisted by Angie Inzana). UNLV tacked on its final goal of the match in the 66th-minute when freshman midfielder Kim Chock's shot from 12 yards out got past the outstretched hands of Aztec goalkeeper Stephanie Pearson.

SDSU's lone score came six minutes later when junior midfielder Jessica Korpela took a pass from senior forward Becky Prilaman and headed the ball into the upper left corner, making the score 2-1. The goal was Korpela's first of the season.

Second-team All-MWC co-goalkeeper Jenna Huff held San Diego State at bay for the final 17 minutes of the contest to give UNLV its third consecutive win on the season and its first postseason win since beating Air Force in the 2001 MWC Championship semifinals.

UNLV will take on the No. 1 seed and host Utah Utes in the second semifinal match on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m., for the right to advance to the Mountain West Tournament championship match on Saturday, Nov. 8.
