Box Score

SALT LAKE CITY - In the second quarterfinal match of the 2003 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship, the sixth-seeded New Mexico Lobos upset the third-seeded Cowgirls from the University of Wyoming, 2-1, in double overtime.

Cowgirl freshman defender Kristin Stangl opened the scoring in the 68th-minute with her goal off of a penalty kick, to give Wyoming the 1-0 advantage.

The Lobos struck back in the 77th-minute of the match when sophomore Kellisha Rendell took in a deflected shot and knocked it in from 15 yards out, tying the score at one apiece.

After 30 minutes of scoreless action between the two teams, junior forward Coco D'Angelo secured the win for New Mexico, knocking in a shot off the far post, on a pass from senior midfielder Erchen Theys in the sixth minute of the second extra period.

New Mexico improved to 3-11-4 this season with the win and will advance to the MWC semifinals for the second straight season. The Lobos will play BYU, in a rematch of last season MWC Tournament championship match, in the first semifinal contest on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.
