UNLV's Katie Carney scored an early second-half goal to lift the Rebels (11-6-3, 5-2) over TCU (6-11, 1-6) 3-0, Wednesday evening in game four of the Mountain West Conference's Soccer Championship in Las Vegas, Nev. UNLV advanced to the semifinals for a third consecutive year and will play San Diego State on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

After controlling the scoreless first half, Carney knocked the ball into an empty net for the game's first goal in the second half. Rebel midfielder Tanya Roberts played the ball toward the middle of the box and TCU goalkeeper Katy Buchanan misplayed the ball, giving Carney an open net for an easy goal at 46:05. The goal was the sixth of the year for Carney, the leading goal scorer for the Rebels.

"It's great to come out here and get that first win. To come out at halftime tied at 0-0, and turn around and get three goals gives us confidence heading into the next round," said UNLV head coach Katherine Mertz. "It is going to be a physical battle (with SDSU). The last time we played them we won 3-0, but it is a completely different game tomorrow. They beat BYU 2-0 and San Diego State is capable of putting balls in the back of the net."

The Rebels continued to dominate, scoring two more goals in a span of less than two minutes to put the game away, going up 3-0 with 20 minutes left. Partridge and Erica Frizzell each contributed a goal in the second half.

"I am obviously disappointed that we lost," said TCU head coach Dan Abdalla. "Our kids left everything they had out on the field. They played as hard as they could and we just got beat."

Goalkeeper Jenna Huff needed to make only one save and faced just six shots in collecting her fifth shutout of the year. The shutout marked UNLV's 10th of the season, setting a school record. TCU's Buchanan made four saves in goal for the Horned Frogs.

With the win, UNLV advances to play SDSU in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3.
