Ute Women's Soccer Falls to No. 10 Pepperdine 1-0

Sept. 30, 2005

Stats

MALIBU, Calif. - Utah opened a two-game West Coast swing with a 1-0 loss against No. 10 Pepperdine at Tari Frahm Rokus Field on Friday afternoon.

Utah fell to 7-4 on the season. Three of its losses have come to teams ranked in the NSCAA/adidas Top 25. Pepperdine improved to 9-0-1.

The Utes outshot the Waves 7-6 and set up the only corner kick in the game. Ashley Mason made four saves, but allowed a goal in the 28th minute that proved to be the difference in the game. Megan Woods passed the ball from the right side of the field to Samantha Hire in the center. Hire got the shot past Mason to score her first goal of the season.

Kim Lloyd, one of eight California natives on the Ute roster, had a chance to tie the game inside of 10 minutes when her shot went off the post.

Freshman forward Adele Letro had four shots on goal for the Utes, while junior forward Amanda Feigt had one.

Pepperdine keeper Anna Picarelli played and excellent game, making seven saves. Picarelli denied some very good looks by the Utes early in the game. She also aggressively beat the Ute forwards to some through balls that could have set up additional shots on goal.

The Utes close out their road trip against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (PDT).
