USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team claimed its first home win of the season, downing Sacramento State, 1-0, on a frigid Saturday at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The win boosts the Falcons to 2-7-2 on the season and drops the Hornets to 5-4-0.

The game-winning goal came in the 42nd minute from sophomore Kimberly Hale. Hale booted a long shot from midfield that deflected off a Sacramento State player and bounded into the box. The ball took a big bounce off the slick grass and over Mandy Trojan, the Hornet keeper, and trickled in before she could get back to the ball.

After out-shooting Sacramento State 8-3 in the first half, the Falcons withstood a late barrage of shots by the Hornets. Sac. St. out-shot the Falcons 12-1 in the second half, but the AFA defense was able to withstand and come out with the win.

Sophomore Erin Wallace picked up the win with seven solid saves in front of the net for the Falcons. Trojan took the loss for the Hornet with two saves in 45 minutes. Jenny Lawrence did not allow a goal in 45 minutes in reserve for Sac. St.

The game was originally slated to be played on Friday night, but was postponed due to snow. The officials and coaches met an hour prior to today's match and deemed the field safe for play.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow, Sept. 24, hosting Stephen F. Austin at noon.
