TUCSON, Ariz.- The University of New Mexico women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Cal State Fullerton Friday evening in the first game of the Arizona Soccer Classic in Tucson, Ariz. The Titans scored a penalty kick and another goal later in the second half to earn the win. The Lobos' record goes to 2-2-2 on the season while Fullerton improves to 5-2-0.

In the first half, the teams were evenly matched with Fullerton slightly leading the Lobos in shots, 4 to 3. Both teams' goalkeepers were forced to make two saves.

Defender Marlene Sandoval scored the first goal of the match off a penalty kick taken half way through the second half. Several minutes later, Fullerton's midfielder Kellie Cox put the second goal away to cap the match. Forward Kandace Wilson had the assist.

The Titans only outshot New Mexico 11 to 10 with both teams even with four shots on goal. Fullerton also held the corner kick advantage 5 to 0.

New Mexico is back in action this Sunday, Sept. 18 for the second game of the Arizona Classic. The Lobos face 22nd-ranked Arizona at 1:30 p.m. (MST).

UNM Head Coach Kit Vela's quotes on the game: "Fullerton is a good team and we didn't play to our full potential. This was our first road game and hopefully we learned something from it. We had a down day, but we can't allow that to affect us. Arizona will be a tough team. They're ranked for a reason and so we'll have to be strong on Sunday."
