Sept. 14, 2006

STOCKTON, Calif. - Behind the steady foot of freshman Katie Larkin, No. 18 BYU (5-1-0) handed Pacific (5-1-1) its first loss as the Cougars scored with just five minutes remaining in the game to win, 1-0.

BYU's lone goal came in the 85th minute off a cross from Booke Bowman to Katie Larkin in the middle of the goal box. Larkin blasted in her second goal of the year to secure a Cougar victory.

For the first time this season Pacific failed to protect a shutout. Tiger goalie Jaime Souza spent about 660 minutes in the net without allowing a single goal until Larkin's score.

The game was a hard fought battle with both teams earning six shots on goal apiece. The Tigers outshot BYU 14-11. Goalkeeper Erika Woodbury secured six crucial saves, while Pacific's Jaime Souza made five.

BYU heads back to Utah on Saturday to face Utah State at 1 p.m., in Logan.
