Stats

IRVINE, Calif. - Freshman Erika Sutton scored two goals to lead the San Diego State women's soccer team to a 2-0 triumph over UC Irvine and a first-place finish in the UC Irvine Nike/Holiday Inn Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Sunday. Sutton, who had four shots in the Aztecs' 1-0 win over UC Riverside on Friday, was named the tournament's most valuable offensive player while senior Alexis Solovij earned the tournament's most valuable defensive player award.

Sutton's first career goal came at the 56:44 mark when classmate Alicia Piz sent in a cross from the left side of the field and Sutton drilled the ball into the right corner of the net. She added her second tally at 78:50, taking a long pass from senior Amanda Swiader and putting the ball away into the left corner from 15 yards out.

SDSU (5-2) freshman Christi Yount played all 90 minutes without making a save for her fourth shutout of the season.

The Aztecs, who started nine underclassmen, including seven freshmen, outshot the Anteaters, 16-0, in the second half and 19-2 for the match. Sophomore Ashley Tenn had a game-high six shots (two on goal) and Sutton contributed four shots.

SDSU will host five of its next six games at the SDSU Sports Deck beginning with a match against George Washington at 3 p.m. Friday.
