SALT LAKE CITY - Adele Letro scored her third goal of the season to give Utah a 1-0 win over Denver in women's soccer on Sunday afternoon at Ute Field. The Utes, ranked 21st in the nation by Soccer Buzz, continued their school-record start by improving to 6-0 on the season.

Denver, which fell to 1-3-1, battled the Utes hard before Letro broke a scoreless tie in the 79th minute.

Melissa Wayman set up McKenzie Joyner on the left side of the field. Joyner dribbled towards the corner and squeezed a pass to Letro in front of the frame. Letro flicked the ball off her foot and into the left side of the net.

Letro, a redshirt freshman from Davis, Calif., has quickly made a difference for the Utes. She has scored a goal in each of the last three games.

The Utes missed on an excellent scoring opportunity in the 72nd minute. Hailey Marsh had a breakaway opportunity against Denver keeper Danielle Wiley. It appeared that Marsh's shot was tipped away by Wiley as it missed right of the net, but the referee ruled that it was not and wiped away the chance for a Ute corner kick.

The Pioneer's best scoring chance came off a free kick in the 86th minute. Katie Oates blasted a 25-yard shot from the left side that was smothered by Ute keeper Ashley Mason. That save preserved Utah's fourth shutout of the season.

In a game dominated by the defenses, only five shots were taken on goal. Both Mason and Wiley made two saves. Utah had four corners while not allowing Denver to take any. The Utes were called for 13 fouls to the Pioneers' 12.

Utah heads to Tucson, Ariz., next weekend to compete in the University of Arizona's tournament. The Utes face the host Wildcats on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then take on Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
