TULSA, Okla. ---- New Mexico women's soccer defeated Tulsa, 2-0, Sunday at the Donna J. Hardesty Recreation Complex in Tulsa, Okla. The Lobos outshot the Golden Hurricane 20-3 and cruised to the victory. UNM concludes the opening weekend with a 1-1 record, while Tulsa is 0-2.

UNM controlled the opening period firing 13 shots and not allowing a single shot by Tulsa. Despite the offensive pressure by the lobos, the match remained scoreless at the break.

In the 48th minute, New Mexico junior Samantha Bevis scored on a set play. Junior Hannah Hand sent a free kick into the box and setup the Bevis header for the goal. It was the first career goal for Bevis and ended up being the only goal UNM would need.

Sophomore Veronika Strnadova added an insurance goal for New Mexico in the 65th minute. Strnadova drilled a straight shot from 18 yards out at the top of the box.

The Lobos host Long Island Friday at 5 p.m. MT at the UNM Soccer Complex. Friday will also be the 2007 home opener for UNM. For more information about UNM athletics visit www.GoLobos.com.
