Lobo Women's Soccer Ties Northern Arizona, 1-1 UNM fires 35 shots against Lumberjacks in home opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The New Mexico women's soccer team battled the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks to a 1-1 tie this afternoon at the UNM Soccer Complex. The tie brings the Lobos record to 0-1-1. The Lumberjacks are also 0-1-1 on the season after the tie. Despite UNM outshooting the Lumberjacks in the opening period, NAU controlled a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. Junior Cee Cee Odorfer had the only goal for the Lumberjack in the first half on an assist from Sam Monahan. The Lobos had 17 shots in the half with five on goal. UNM continued to apply the pressure offensively but could not find the net. UNM senior Hannah Hand tied the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute. Hand scored her first goal of the season off a rebounded shot from sophomore Alexis Ball. Hand collected the ball on the close right wing and fired into in the net. Ball was credited with the assist. The Lobos collected 30 shots in regulation. In the two overtime periods New Mexico once again was dominant on offense. The Lobos were able to get off five more shots including a nice cross that almost found the back of the net off of Samantha Bevis' right foot. The shot bent wide with only :28 seconds left and the Lobos would end up with a tie.
The Lobos return to action next Friday, Aug. 29 against Baylor at the UNM Soccer Complex. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. MT with gametracker and live video available through GoLobos.com.
