Final Stats

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 2-1 loss at home to Regis University Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. It was the Falcons' first game under new head coach Larry Friend, who replaced Marty Buckley at the helm over the summer.

A pair of home run ball passes propelled the Rangers to the win. On both scores, Regis was able to send passes in from midfield past the Falcon back line, giving the Regis players one-on-one opportunities they were able to convert on.

Regis struck ten minutes into the match for a 1-0 lead. Chelsea Bokan beat Falcon goalkeeper Charity Blanton on a one-on-one from 15 yards out, slipping the ball past Blanton on the left side for the score. Lexi Tagen assisted on the score with a well placed pass from midfield, sent down the right side.

After a scoreless first-half, Air Force came out the gates in the second half on fire, scoring just 18 seconds in on its first possession. Senior Susan Finch was able to weave her way near the box and then sent a pass to right-center up top to sophomore Ashley Sikora, who fired past Regis goalkeeper Marianne Clausen for the score.

In the 80th minute, Regis re-took the lead as a Danielle Lardner hit Jordan Miller on the run from midfield and Miller was able to slip the ball past Blanton for the go-ahead goal.

Five freshmen started for Air Force, and eight total, made their Falcon debuts. Air Force played without sophomore Bridgett Murphy, its leading returning scorer, who is out for the weekend recovering from an injury.
