Nov. 11, 2004
Fort Collins, Colo. - Head coach Angie Hopkins announced that Krystina Gillenwater, Natalie Stone and Karen Wanersdorfer have signed National Letters of Intent to play golf at Colorado State. *Krystina Gillenwater (Menifee, Calif./ Paloma Valley High School)*. Currently attending Paloma Valley High School, Krystina Gillenwater was the winner of the 2004 IIJT Tustin Ranch Tournament shooting a five-under 139 including a first-round 66. She was a contestant in the 2003 and 2004 Callaway Junior World Golf Tournaments and, this fall, has individually won all of her high school matches and holds a 36 stroke average for nine holes for the past two seasons. She was voted Most Athletic at her high school and has been her league's MVP all four years within her High School Golf Association. "Krystina is a true athlete," said Hopkins. "She is very competitive and will bring plenty of mental toughness to our team." *Natalie Stone (Bountiful, Utah / Judge Memorial Catholic High School)*. Natalie became the Utah High School Girls State Champion in 2003 and 2004 and was the Utah State Junior Amateur Runner-Up in 2002 and 2003. She won the Valley View PGA Junior Series Tournament in Layton, Utah in July of 2003. Natalie plays at Davis Park Golf Course where her father is the head pro and her grandfather helped design the course. She also played basketball and was the co-captain of the boy's high school golf team in 2004. "Natalie comes from a golfing family," commented Hopkins. "She has the skills and tournament experience for college golf." *Karen Wanersdorfer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain High School)*. As a junior, Karen won the 2004 State Regional Qualifier to advance to the State Championship. At the 2004 State 4A Girls Championship, she finished in second place out of 72 participants. Karen was also named to the 2004 All-Colorado Team by the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post. A standout athlete at Cheyenne Mountain High School, Karen is interested in studying pre-medicine at CSU and was instrumental in encouraging Governor Bill Owens to sign a proclamation designating Oct. 25-29 as Health Career Awareness Week in Colorado High Schools. "Karen is an outstanding student-athlete," said Hopkins. "She is a very focused individual who will be a major contributor to our team on the links as well as in the classroom."
