MWC Announces Women's Golfer of the Month San Diego State's Christine Wong honored
Nov. 10, 2009 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State freshman Christine Wong has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for October/November. Wong, a Surrey, B.C., native, became the first San Diego State women's golfer to win a 54-hole tournament in six years. She set a new Aztec record by five strokes and led the team to a third-place finish, carding a 10-under 206 (69-68-69) at the Price's Give `Em Five Tournament in Las Cruces, N.M. Wong was the only competitor to finish under par on the par 72, 6,319-yard course. Under her leadership, the Aztecs' 54-hole total of 16-over 880 was the second-best in school history. The freshman also led the Aztecs to another third-place finish at the CU Heather Farr Memorial Invitational. She tallied a nine-over 225 (76-77-72) on the par 72, 6,352-yard course. In her final tournament of the fall season, Wong carded an 11-over 227 (76-75-76) at the Turtle Bay Resort Invitational in Laie, Hawaii. She finished tied for 26th out of a field of 93 golfers on the par 72, 6,261-yard course. Wong currently ranks second in the MWC for stroke average (73.17) and is ranked No. 61 nationally by Golfweek. -mwc-
