New Mexico's Downs Captures Second Straight Women's Golfer of the Month Award Downs currently leads MWC with 71.92 stroke average

New Mexico senior Kailin Downs was named Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for October after posting a 71.5 stroke average in two tournaments. Downs tied for 18th at the Stanford Intercollegiate Oct. 15-17 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., after carding an eight-over 218 (75-69-74) on the par 72, 5,853-yard course. As a team, New Mexico placed seventh in a field of 18 that included nine of the top 25 teams in the country. In her second tournament appearance of the month, Downs posted a career-low five-under 211 (73-67-71) en route to a second place finish at the Landfall Tradition held at the Country Club of Landfall, Nicklaus Course, in Wilmington, N.C. It was the 14th career top-five finish for Downs, while her second-round 67 on the par 72, 6,034-yard course was a single-round best for the fall season. The Lobos also won the team title in the 12 institution field.
