New Mexico senior Kailin Downs was named Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for October after posting a 71.5 stroke average in two tournaments.

Downs tied for 18th at the Stanford Intercollegiate Oct. 15-17 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., after carding an eight-over 218 (75-69-74) on the par 72, 5,853-yard course. As a team, New Mexico placed seventh in a field of 18 that included nine of the top 25 teams in the country. In her second tournament appearance of the month, Downs posted a career-low five-under 211 (73-67-71) en route to a second place finish at the Landfall Tradition held at the Country Club of Landfall, Nicklaus Course, in Wilmington, N.C. It was the 14th career top-five finish for Downs, while her second-round 67 on the par 72, 6,034-yard course was a single-round best for the fall season. The Lobos also won the team title in the 12 institution field.
