TCU's Catherine Matranga earns this month's honors.

Oct. 4, 2006

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU senior Catherine Matranga has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for September.

The Fort Worth, Texas, native began the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in 11th place, five strokes off the pace, before shooting a 3-under-par 70 to take medalist honors. She became the first TCU women's golfer since Brooke Tull in 2004 to capture an individual championship.

Matranga followed her first-place finish with a tie for second at the Jeannine McHaney Intercollegiate. She carded a final round 4-under-par 68 to finish just four shots off the pace. She was also instrumental in leading TCU to a pair of top-five finishes.

For the season, Matranga ranks first in the MWC with a 70.8 stroke average.
