Sept. 27, 2001

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - After nearly two weeks between tournaments, the Colorado State Women's Golf Team returned to play Monday and Tuesday in the Pioneer Collegiate in Highlands Ranch. The team led after the first round, but slipped on the second day of play to finish the tournament in 3rd place. The Rams finished with 606, seven strokes behind winner and host team the University of Denver. Leading the way for Colorado State was senior Bridget Johnson, who posted a five over-par 149. She finished tied for 7th place. Mayumi Motoyama, tying for 15th, finished at 151, seven over-par. Also playing for the Rams were freshmen Kylee King and Lynette Duran, posting scores of 154 and 156, respectively. Rounding out team play for the Rams was Stephanie Linnell who ended the tournament at an 11-over 155.

CU Tournament Next On Agenda
The Rams have another break before heading to the Heather Farr Memorial October 8th and 9th. Last year, Mayumi Motoyama finished 2nd in this tournament with a five over 149. She looks to defend her status this year as one of the most successful players in Colorado State history. Second-year coach Megan Menzel leads her team back to this tournament after a fourth place finish last year, behind winner San Diego State. Colorado and the University of Nevada rounded out the top three. The Rams played against both CU and Nevada earlier this season in the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic. CSU won that tournament and finished 13 strokes ahead of CU and 15 strokes ahead of Nevada.

Campos Finishes 9th Individually
Colorado State freshman Kristin Campos competed individually at the Pioneer Collegiate, finishing tied for 9th place. Campos posted her best score so far this season with a 72 in the second round and a six-over par 150 to finish the tournament. Dawna Virdell also played individually for the Rams, shooting an 82-78 to end the tournament at 160.
