Rams Hope To Build on 2001 Success CSU to host Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic, Sept.10-11.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University's women's golf team hopes to duplicate past success and continue to build it's tradition entering the 2002 season. Second-year coach Megan Menzel guided the program to its first-ever NCAA Championships appearance a season ago, when the Rams finished 15th in the NCAA West Regionals, held at Sun River, Ore. The team's historic journey came on the heels of tying for second in the Mountain West Conference Championships behind a well-balanced team effort led by Mayumi Motoyama. She finished was third in the individual standings in the conference meet. With the Rams' seeking to join the nation's elite, Menzel and her squad will open the 2001-02 season by playing host to the 17-team Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic, Sept.10-11. The meet runs Monday and Tuesday, with 36 holes scheduled the first day of competition, and 18 more Tuesday. A season ago, the Rams' run to the NCAA Championships began with a third-place finish in this same meet. Lineup Set For Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic Second-year coach Megan Menzel will have a five-member team competing in the opening meet of the season, and also two individuals. Included in the five-member team is senior Bridget Johnson, junior Mayumi Motoyama, sophomore Stephanie Linnell, along with freshmen Kristin Campos and Lynette Duran. Sophomore Dawna Virdell and freshman Kylee King will compete as individuals. Rams Enjoy Breakthrough 2001 Season
The Colorado State women's golf team finished in 15th at the NCAA West
Regional in Corvallis, Ore., with a three-round total of 942. This was
the first time in women's golf history making it to post-season play.
Wendy Veto (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) was the top finisher for Colorado
State after firing off rounds of 81-78-74=233 to land in a tie for 41st.
Stephanie Linnell (Fr., Burlington, Wash.) saw improvement each day and
finished in a tie for 61st after posting a 239. Sophomore Mayumi
Motoyama (Littleton, Colo.) and Bridget Johnson (Jr., Spokane, Wash.)
tied at the 63rd mark after shooting a 54-hole total of 240, while
senior Robyn Roy (Englewood, Colo.) closed out the Rams tied at the 84th
spot after carding a three-day total of 245.
