Angie Hopkins Named Women's Golf Coach At CSU Hopkins comes to CSU by way of New Mexico.
Aug. 9, 2002 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Angie Hopkins was today appointed the new women's golf coach at Colorado State University. Jeffrey Hathaway, the school's director of athletics, made the announcement. "We are excited to have Angie Hopkins join our program," said Hathaway. "Angie has been successful both as a student-athlete and as a coach. Angie brings a great deal of knowledge and expertise about the Mountain West Conference to our program. She is familiar with the types of student-athletes needed to compete both academically and athletically at the highest level. "Angie was particularly appealing to us as she comes from a top-25 program that has won the Mountain West Conference Championship for three straight years. In addition to her coaching and recruiting experience, Angie is an apprentice in the LPGA teaching and club division and is working towards her class A membership. "We have witnessed tremendous growth in the success of our women's golf program in recent years. We are confident that growth will continue under Angie's guidance."
Hopkins has been an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University
of New Mexico, since 1999. The Lobos won last season's Mountain West
Conference title and qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship. She
formerly played for the Lobos from 1995-98, earning four varsity letter
awards. During that time, Hopkins helped the Lobos to two conference
titles and a pair of NCAA Championship appearances. The team finished
15th in the NCAA meet in 1995, and eighth three seasons later.
