ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Five Lobo women's golfers have been named to the 2004-05 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division I Scholar-Athlete team. Giselle Claux, Kailin Downs, Alexandra Phelps, Ashley Rollins and Christina Spence were all selected to the team for UNM. The criteria for selection to the scholar team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics - the minimum GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year. A total of 199 women's collegiate golfers were recognized this season for this prestigious honor. In addition, Claux, Downs, Phelps, Rollins and Spence were named All-Mountain West Scholar-Athletes earlier this month.

Downs, who closed her career with a scoring average of 74.38 - the best in UNM history - earns NGCA Scholar-Athlete accolades for the fourth time. The senior owns a 3.78 GPA in General Management.

This marks the third time Spence has made the all-scholar team, previously joining the squad in 2002 and 2003. The English major had a 3.84 GPA.

Rollins garners NGCA Scholar-Athlete honors for the second straight year after making the team as a freshman. Rollins has a 3.97 GPA as an undecided major.

Claux, a redshirt freshman from Lima, Peru, collected a 3.64 GPA in International Business, and Phelps, a freshman from Albuquerque, tallied a 3.64 GPA as an undecided major.
