SAN DIEGO - Tournaments in seven different states and the annual Lady Aztec Invitational highlight the 2005-06 San Diego State women's golf schedule released Monday by fourth-year head coach Felicia Brown.

The Aztecs will play in four different states during the fall 2005 season, while trips to Nevada, Oregon and Utah are featured in the spring of 2006. SDSU is slated to compete in five tournaments which also appeared on last year's schedule, including the 2006 Mountain West Conference championships set for April 20-22, in St. George, Utah.

For the first time in four years, the Aztecs won't begin their season in New Mexico, starting in Flagstaff, Ariz., instead. SDSU will play at the Continental Country Club, Sept. 19-20, in an event hosted by Northern Arizona University.

The team will use the NAU tournament as a tune-up for the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 26-28. The Aztecs have participated in each of the last three Dick McGuire Invitationals, which annually attracts the nation's top golfers to the University of New Mexico's University Golf Course.

"I really pushed to get into the NAU tournament, so that we can get our feet wet before we walk into New Mexico," Brown said. "New Mexico has one of the best - if not the best - fields that you'll find with a lot of top-10 to top-25 schools, including many of our district and conference rivals."

San Diego State plays host to its lone home tournament of the year, the 15-team Lady Aztec Invitational, on Oct. 16-17, at The Auld Course in Chula Vista, Calif., before rounding out the fall with a trip to Hawaii for the Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Course, Nov. 1-2.

After almost a four-month break, the spring campaign kicks off in Fresno, Calif., at Copper River Country Club, Feb. 27-28, followed by March tournaments in Henderson, Nev. (UNLV host) and Creswell, Ore. (Univ. of Oregon host).

SDSU concludes its regular season at the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah, April 3-5. The Aztecs have competed in each of the last six Dixie Classics with the last two having been played at the Entrada at Snow Canyon.

The BYU Dixie Classic will be a tune-up for the 2006 Mountain West Conference championships, which will also be played at the Entrada at Snow Canyon. The conference tournament has been held at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore., each of the last five years, however, the inaugural event in 2000 took place back in St. George, Utah, at the Sunbrook Golf Club.

"(Entrada at Snow Canyon) is extremely different (than Sunriver), in that you have all red-clay rough," Brown said. "There is very limited water, but it's still a very challenging, target-type golf course. We've had two years of experience on it already, so it should really give us an advantage."

The Aztecs will be looking to earn their first bid to the NCAA regionals since 2004. The 2006 NCAA regionals will take place in Auburn, Wash., College Station, Texas, and Browns Summitt, N.C. The top eight teams from each regional will advance to the national championship at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, May 23-26.
