NEWPORT, R.I. - UNLV women's golf freshman Da Sol Chung finished at 11-over par in the first round Friday at the 61st U.S. Women's Open, being played at the Newport Country Club.

Chung had 11 pars on her round, but she did not card any birdies and had sevens bogies or worse on the day. She is tied for 148th overall and she will begin her second round on the 10th hole at 9:41 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday.

Annika Sorenstam was among a group of four who were tied for the lead with a two-under 69 on the par-71 course. Fog had delayed the start of the tournament, which was scheduled to start on Thursday. The 60 lowest scores and anyone tying for 60th place, or anyone within 10 strokes of the leader after the first 36 holes, will play in Sunday's final round.

Chung is only the second UNLV golfer to play in an LPGA event and she is the first to play in a Major Championship as well. Former Rebel great Sunny Oh played in the 2004 Takefuji Classic in Las Vegas and finished 49th.
