LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's golf team finished ranked 16th in the country in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Ratings released today and it is the highest ranking ever to end a season in the five-year history of the program.

The ranking capped a strong year for the Rebels, who finished 22nd at the NCAA Championships last month, the second time that the program has advanced to the championships.

UNLV won three tournaments on the year, including a third-straight Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship to go along with victories at the UNLV Spring Invitational and the BYU Dixie Classic.

Da Sol Chung had a brilliant freshman season, earning MWC Player of the Year and Co-Freshman of the Year awards while also winning MWC Tournament medalist honors. Chung finished third overall at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish ever for a Rebel individual. She was rewarded for her strong play by being named to the NGCA All-American First Team, the first Rebel to earn first team honors.

Individually the Rebels had three players in the top 100, led by Chung who finished 11th, followed by Seema Sadekar at 67th and Elena Kurokawa at 70th. Overall as a team UNLV competed in 11 tournaments in 2005-06 and had 10 top-10 finishes, including six top fives.

Duke, which won its second-straight national championship, was the top rated team in the country, followed by UCLA, Arizona State, USC and Auburn.
