ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico junior Alexandra Phelps and freshman Britney Choy advanced to the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships over the weekend after qualifying against the nation's best. Phelps shot a 74 to finish first at the Socorro, N.M., sectional and was one of only four to qualify. Choy placed second in the Honolulu, Hawai'i sectional after carding at 73. The Lobos will contend for the title on June 18-23 in Lexington, Ky., at the Kearney Hill Golf Links Course.

Phelps reached the championships after qualifying at the New Mexico Tech Golf Course on June 1. The Albuquerque, N.M., native is coming off her junior campaign at UNM that featured 10 tournaments. Her round low was a 71 set at the UNLV Spring Invitational.

Choy was one of three to qualify from the Honolulu, Hawai'i sectional played at the Ala Wai Golf Course. Choy competed in two events as a Lobo this year and fired a career-best 73 in the opening round of the Dick McGuire Invitational.
