Kailin Downs Named To Academic All-District VI First-Team

Downs and Ashley Rollins both named to NGCA All-Scholar Team.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior women's golfer Kailin Downs has been named to the University Division Academic All-District VI Women's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA). Downs was also named to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-Scholar Team for the third consecutive season.

In addition to Downs, freshman Ashley Rollins was also named a NGCA All-Scholar Athlete. Rollins, who set the freshman record at New Mexico with a 74.6 scoring average, was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Downs, a General Management major, boasted a 3.82 GPA to earn first-team honors. She is now eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be released later this month.

The Bend, Ore., native earned honorable mention All-America honors for the second straight year after leading the Lobos to a 15th place finish at the NCAA Championships. She finished the season ranked No. 32 in the nation and set a UNM junior class record with a stroke average of 73.91.

Downs was also named the recipient of the 2004 Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award. The honor is presented by the NGCA to an individual based on academic and athletic achievement during the 2003-04 season.

A three-time All-Mountain West performer, Downs will represent the United States at the 2004 U.S. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship July 13-16 in Chiba, Japan.
