DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- TCU senior Catherine Matranga shot a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for second individually while the Horned Frogs moved into a tie for 10th after Tuesday's second round of the NCAA Women's Golf National Championship.

Matranga's 71, which included six birdies, tied a TCU single-round record in NCAA Championship play. Rita Moore carded a final-round 71 in 1983 when the Horned Frogs won the national title.

After an opening-round 72, Matranga is at 1-under 143 through 36 holes. The Fort Worth native is in a three-way deadlock for second with Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and UCLA's Tiffany Joh. Purdue's Christel Boeljon is two strokes ahead with a 2-under 141.

Only two TCU golfers in eight previous NCAA Championship appearances have finished in the top 15.

TCU recorded an 11-over 299 to improve its team score by eight strokes over Monday's 307. The Frogs are tied with Wake Forest at 606, 19 shots behind leader Duke (587). The Blue Devils lead second-place UCLA (594) by seven strokes. TCU is just five shots behind fifth-place USC (601).

Keyed by an eagle on the 16th hole, TCU's Valentine Derrey was 2-under for the final 11 holes to finish with a 2-over 74. It was a 12-stroke improvement from round one for the All-Mountain West Conference selection.

Megan O'Donnell and Elin Emanuelsson both posted 77s, while Camille Blackerby recorded a 79. Emanuelsson and Blackerby are tied for 63rd.

Live scoring of Thursday's third round is available at www.golfstat.com. TCU will tee off at 11:30 a.m. CT in a group with Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.
