TCU tied for 16th at NCAA Championship Matranga tied for sixth with an opening-round 72
May 22, 2007 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Keyed by Catherine Matranga's even-par 72, TCU is tied for 16th after Tuesday's opening round of the NCAA Women's Golf National Championship on the Legends Course at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. The No. 18 Horned Frogs, making their first appearance at the NCAA Championship since 2000, played in the afternoon when swirling winds took over the course. Matranga, ranked 34th nationally, had three birdies through the opening eight holes. The senior from Fort Worth is three strokes behind leader Selanee' Henderson of UC Irvine, who carded a 3-under 69. TCU posted a 19-over-par 307 and is 12 strokes behind No. 7 USC who sits atop the leaderboard with a 295. The Trojans are two shots ahead of North Carolina and Louisville, tied for second at 297. Camille Blackerby and Elin Emanuelsson recorded a 76 and 78, respectively, for TCU. Frog freshman Megan O'Donnell had an 81, while fellow TCU rookie Valentine Derrey totaled an 86.
