Mountain West Conference Sends Record Three Teams to Women's NCAA Golf Championships TCU, BYU and New Mexico earn berths to 2007 NCAA National Championships Field
May 15, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A record three teams from the Mountain West Conference will advance to the 2007 NCAA Women's Golf National Championships, set to be played May 22-25 at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. Prior to this year, the most teams the MWC had sent to the National Championships was two in 2004 when both New Mexico and UNLV progressed. The 24th NCAA Championships is a four-day, 72-hole tournament co-hosted by the University of Central Florida on the par-72, 6,351-yard course. The top eight teams and two individuals from each of three regionals last weekend advanced to the National Championships. TCU posted its best regional finish in school history, moving forward for the first time since 2000. The Horned Frogs finished third in the Central Region at the University of Michigan Golf Course. BYU and New Mexico each proceed from the West Region with fifth place and eighth place finishes, respectively, on the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club course. BYU advances as a team for the second time since 2005, despite playing short-handed for the final two rounds of the West Region, while senior Rachel Newren moves on for the third time after receiving an individual bid in 2006. New Mexico will make its third trip to the NCAA Championships since 2001. The field for the NCAA Championships is made up of 24 teams with 22 of them ranked in the top-30 according to Golfweek. The field consists of Arizona State (1), Duke (2), Georgia (3), Southern California (4), Pepperdine (5), Oklahoma State (6), Auburn (7), Stanford (8), UCLA (9), Vanderbilt (10), Purdue (11), Tennessee (13), Arizona (14), BYU (16), Wake Forest (17), North Carolina (18), New Mexico (19), Denver (20), Michigan State (21), TCU (23), Alabama (25), UC Irvine (28), Louisville and Indiana.
