TCU tied for second at NCAA Regionals Matranga's 68 keys the Frogs' opening round
May 10, 2007 ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Keyed by Catherine Matranga's 3-under-par 68, the TCU women's golf team is tied for second after Thursday's opening round of the NCAA Central Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich. The top-eight teams after Saturday's third and final round will advance to the NCAA National Championships May 22-25 in Daytona Beach, Fla. Matranga is in a three-way tie for second individually. The senior from Fort Worth is one stroke behind Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino who carded a 67. No. 23 TCU shot a 5-over-par 289 and is tied with Indiana, six strokes behind ninth-ranked USC. The Trojans are at 1-under 283. The Frogs sit atop five teams ranked ahead of them, including No. 3 Georgia (292), No. 4 Vanderbilt (290) and No. 10 Tennessee (294). TCU's Elin Emanuelsson had an even-par 71 to represent a season-low round and place her in a tie for 10th. Fellow Frog senior Camille Blackerby is in a deadlock for 26th with a 3-over 74. TCU freshmen Megan O'Donnell and Valentine Derrey recorded a 76 and 79, respectively. The Frogs will tee off at 11:30 a.m. CT in Friday's second round. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
