CSU Opens NCAA Play Thursday Duran leads Rams into Stanford, Calif.
May 8, 2002 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University's women's golf team makes its second consecutive NCAA appearance beginning Thursday morning at the Stanford University course in Stanford, Calif. The Rams, who finished third in the Mountain West Conference Championships two weeks ago, are making back-to-back regional appearances. Last season, the team qualified for postseason play for the first time in school history, finishing 15th in the event hosted by Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore. Freshman Lynette Duran, who won the MWC individual title, leads the Rams into play Thursday morning. Duran shot a three-round 216 to win individual honors in the conference meet. Teammate Mayumi Motoyama finished ninth. All five of Colorado State's competitors, including Bridget Johnson, Stephanie Linnell, and Kristen Campos, all finished among the top 25 in the MWC tournament. In the first day of competition Thursday, each of the Rams will be in a threesome with a player from BYU and Washington State, respectively. The trios will be the first five groups off the tee, beginning at 7:30 a.m. (PT), when Campos, BYU's Jessica Gardner, and Jackie Stevens of WSU hit the course.
Eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regions under way
this weekend will advance to the NCAA Championshipos in Auburn, Wash.,
May 21-23.
