Official NCAA Central Regional Site

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The 14th-ranked New Mexico women's golf team has earned a berth in the NCAA Central Regional, the NCAA Division I women's golf committee announced Monday afternoon. The Lobos will head to Texas Tech University, host of the Central Region, May 5-7 to play on the Jerry S. Rawls Course. This marks the 13th consecutive year New Mexico has made postseason action.

The NCAA Women's Golf Championships are divided into three regional sites and conclude with the finals May 17-20 at the Meadows Course at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. Each regional site hosts 21 teams, with the top eight in each region advancing to the finals.

Joining the Lobos in the Central Regional are (as announced by the NCAA): Auburn, Arizona State, LSU, Wake Forest, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Michigan, Tulsa, TCU, SMU, Purdue, Michigan State, Penn State, Baylor, Texas A&M, South Florida, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and Long Island.

The region features nine ranked teams, including No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 12 LSU, No. 14 New Mexico, No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 18 Missouri, No. 20 Arkansas, No. 21 Texas and No. 22 Tulsa.

UNM enters the NCAA Central Regional after placing second at the Mountain West Championships April 22-24, falling just two strokes shy of No. 25 UNLV. The Lobos won the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., Oct. 29-31, and the Lady Gamecock Classic in Blythewood, S.C., March 11-13.

Kailin Downs, Christine Fernandez and Ashley Rollins were named to the All-Mountain West Conference team. Downs became the first four-time honoree in conference history, while Rollins earned back-to-back all-league accolades.

"We are very excited to land a spot in the Central Regional," said New Mexico head coach Jackie Booth. "We wanted to play on this course. It's a perfect layout for us - the course is long with wide-open fairways. Overall, we couldn't be happier about our draw. Our team will definitely be ready for the challenge that lies ahead."
