ST. GEORGE, UTAH - The Mountain West Conference announced its all-conference team and individual awards at the conclusion of its women's golf championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah, on Saturday, April 22. UNLV freshman Da Sol Chung was named the Player of the Year, while Chung and New Mexico's Mikaela Backstedt shared Freshman of the Year honors. UNLV head coach Missy Ringler was selected the Coach of the Year.

Chung claimed medalist honors at the 2006 MWC Women's Golf Championship as she won a one-hole playoff to break a three-way tie. Only a freshman, Chung became the third-different Rebel to win medalist honors in as many years, joining current teammate Elena Kurokawa (2005) and Sunny Oh (2004). She finished with tournament with a 6-over 222 (76-73-73). For the season, Chung paced the MWC with a 72.58 stroke average and collected six top-10 finishes during the season. She was named the MWC Golfer of the Month in February.

In addition, Chung shared Freshman of the Year honors with New Mexico's Mikaela Backstedt. Backstedt was second in the MWC with a 72.75 stroke average and posted seven top-10 finishes, including four in the top five. In addition, she earned MWC Golfer of the Month honors in September and October. Backstedt tied for first with Chung and New Mexico Py Bengtsson at the 2006 MWC Women's Golf Championship before falling in a one-hole playoff.

UNLV's head coach Missy Ringler earned MWC Coach of the Year honors for the second time in her career. She also was named the 2004 MWC Coach of the Year. UNLV claimed its third straight MWC Championship with a three-round 895.
