2006-07 MWC Women's Golf All-Conference Team Announced BYU's Rachel Newren and New Mexico's Jodi Ewart named Co-Players of the Year
April 21, 2007 St. George, Utah - The Mountain West Conference announced its all-conference team and individual awards at the conclusion of its women's golf championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah, on Saturday, April 21. BYU senior Rachel Newren and New Mexico freshman Jodi Ewart were named the Co-Players of the Year, while Ewart also earned Freshman of the Year honors. BYU head coach Sue Nyhus was selected the Coach of the Year. Ewart claimed the individual title at the 2007 MWC Women's Golf Championship leading her team to a third-place finish. She was second in the MWC regular season with a 72.92 stroke average. Ewart posted four top-10 finishes, including two in the top five. Newren claimed medalist honors at the 2007 MWC Women's Golf Championship, taking third place. As a senior, the third-place finish marked the second time in her career she earned medalist honors as she finished in second place in 2005. For the season, Newren paced the MWC with a 72.81 stroke average and collected seven top-10 finishes during the season, including a win at the Ron Moore Women's Invitational. She was named the MWC Golfer of the Month in October and March. BYU's head coach Sue Nyhus earned MWC Coach of the Year honors for the second time in her career.
