ALBUQUERQUE - The University of New Mexico women¹s golf team are set to defend their title at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women¹s Golf Championships, Apr. 23-25 in Sunriver, Ore.

The Lobos took last year¹s team title by a 12-stroke margin over second place BYU. Senior Elisa Kase lead the Lobos individually placing tied for third with a three round score of 226.

Course/Format -- Sunriver Resort will host the MWC Championships. The Meadows Course at Sunriver will host the women¹s championships. The course plays to a par 71 on 6,022 yards.

Tournament format includes 18-holes each day. The four top scores of each round will count towards the team total.

MWC Field -- The MWC has only five women¹s golf teams participating in the tournament. The list includes (in order of 2000 MWC Championships finish): New Mexico, Brigham Young, Colorado State, Wyoming and San Diego State.

2000 Results -- New Mexico finished with a three-round score of 916 (311-308-297). The Lobos scored a 297 in the final round to set a MWC Championships low.

Individually UNM had three place in the top-10 including Kase (T3rd € 226), Claudia Ferrini and Ryley Webb tied for seventh place with identical scores of 227. Former Lobo Dianne Overstreet placed tied for 11th with a 236 followed by Britney Holt who finished in 17th place with a 242.

Tournament Results -- Results will be available on the MWC website: www.mountainwestconf.com.

Last Tournament - The Lobos finished in eighth place at the tough 2001 Ping/ASU Invitational. New Mexico finished with a tournament score of 907 (309-295-303).

Senior Elisa Kase is on a tear on the final leg of the season schedule placing tied for 15th. Kase finished with a 243 (77-71-75) to lead the Lobos in tournament play. She scored a collegiate career low 71 in the second round. In the last two tournaments Kase has placed in the top-15 individually (tied for 10th at the UCLA Bruin Classic and the 15th at the ASU Invitational).

Freshman Kristi Larsen also had a good tournament placing tied for 28th (226 = 75-72-79) followed by Ferrini and Webb who tied for 40th with scores of 229. Senior Britney Holt finished tied for 72nd while freshman Kellyn Newman, competing as an individual, placed tied for 76th - her best finish of the season.

Kase named MWC Golfer of the Week -- Senior Elisa Kase was named the Mountain West Conference Women¹s Golfer of the Week (Mar. 26-30) for her efforts at the UCLA Bruin Classic.

Kase had her best finish this season (tied for 10th place) at the Classic and her second best performance of her Lobo career (tied for 3rd at the 2000 MWC Championships). She finished tied for 10th among 105 competitors scoring one of her lowest rounds - 72 (Stanford Intercollegiate and UCLA Bruin Classic) in helping the Lobos to its best finish of the Spring season (6th place) at the UCLA Bruin Classic.

Rankings -- In the latest Golfweek poll (released Apr. 11) New Mexico in team rankings stayed even at No. 25. In MasterCard Collegiate Rankings the Lobos come in at No. 31.

Individually for the Lobos freshman Kristi Larsen jumped ahead of senior Ryley Webb coming in at No. 88 while Webb is listed at No. 90.

Lobo Travel Squad -- The Lobo lineup includes seniors Ryley Webb, Britney Holt and Elisa Kase. Junior Claudia Ferrini and freshman Kristi Larsen round out the Lobo squad.

Head Coach Jackie Booth -- In her fourth year at the helm of the New Mexico women's golf program is Jackie Booth. Last season Booth helped lead the Lobos to the inaugural Mountain West Conference Championship title, coached the MWC co-woman's golfer of the year, two NCAA All-Americans (second team and honorable mention), two all-conference athletes, three National Golf Coaches Association Scholar Athletes and three all-conference scholar athletes.

Booth was named the 2000 LPGA Centra Section Coach of the Year as recently named by Spaulding. Booth's season record in 1999-2000 includes six top-5 finishes in 10 tournaments including one title (MWC Championship), a second-place (Dick McGuire) and a third place (Ping/ASU) finish. Not only does Booth continue to push the Lobos to pursue their goals, but helps develop their talents off the course as well.

For her efforts Booth was named 1998 LPGA National Coach of the Year as presented by Spaulding. Booth has in her three-years at UNM, taken the team to the 1998 NCAA Women's Golf Championships and participated in the NCAA West Regionals every year.
