COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore Kailin Downs was named Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month after leading the Lobos to a sixth place finish at the Ping/Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., April 4-6, a field that included nine of the top 25 teams in the country. Downs posted a fourth place finish among 92 golfers with an even 54-hole total of 216 (71-76-69), marking the fifth time in eight tournaments this season she has placed in the top five individually. In the final round of the ASU Invitational, Downs tied two career lows with a single round score of 69 and a 54-hole tournament score of 216. Downs currently leads New Mexico and the MWC with a 73.6 stroke average over 22 rounds and is on pace to establish a new sophomore record for stroke average that is currently held by teammate Kristi Larsen (2001-02 - 74.9).
