MWC Names Women's Golfer of the Month BYU's Maggie Yuan earns March honor
April 2, 2009 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU freshman Maggie Yuan has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for March. Yuan finished five out of eight rounds at or below par and finished in the top-20 in every tournament she competed in, posting a 73.62 stroke average for the month. She shot a 4-under 68 in the final round to tie for second place at the Wave Invitational played in Moorpark, Calif., March 3-4. Yuan finished the tournament at 4-under 140 (72-68) on the par-72, 6,054-yard Moorpark Golf Course. At the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational, held March 9-11, at the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev., Yuan tied for eighth place out of a field of 96. She finished 4-over 220 (78-71-71) on the 6,234-yard course, completing both the second and third rounds at 1-under 71 and making seven birdies between the two rounds. Yuan ended the month with a strong performance at the BYU Dixie Classic, which took place March 24-25, at the Entrada at Snow Canyon course in St. George, Utah. The Sichuan, China, native placed 15th overall on the 5,981-yard course, scoring the third round at an even-par 72 (78-79-72). Her final individual placements in the first two tournaments of March were the best thus far in her BYU career. Yuan currently ranks 12th in the MWC for stroke average (75.83) and second on her team.
