UNM Prepares for ASU Invitational Tournament to take place Apr. 4-6 at Karsten Golf Course.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's golf team will travel to Tempe, Ariz. and the 2003 PING/ASU Invitational, Apr. 4-6. The tournament will be played at Karsten Golf Course on the campus of Arizona State University. Format: The tournament consists of 18 holes with an 8 a.m starting time on Fri., and Sat. followed by a 7:30 a.m. start on Sunday. The Karsten Golf Course plays to a par 72 on 6,183 yards. Tournament Field: There will be 16 teams participating in the ASU Invitational including: host Arizona State, Arizona, California, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, Stanford, Texas, TCU, Tulsa, UCLA, USC and Washington. Lobo Lineup: The UNM lineup for the ASU Invite is as follows: Kailin Downs, Katrina Leckovic, Christina Spence and Shannon Johnson. Kristi Larsen is tentatively scheduled in the lineup but suffered a sprained ankle at the UCLA Bruin Classic and my not travel. In this case - Kellyn Newman or Kelli Van Winkle will replace Larsen in the lineup. New Mexico in the Rankings: In the latest poll released on Mar. 31 by GolfWeek Magazine, UNM drops climbs two spots to No. 11. The Lobos are also listed at No. 13 in both the GolfDigest Women?s Coaches Poll of Mar. 28 and in GolfStat NCAA stats (Mar. 25). In GolfWeek individual rankings sophomore Kailin Downs ranks No. 23 in the nation. Throughout the season, Downs has ranked as high as No. 17 and no lower than No. 50. Sophomore Christina Spence climbs into the top-100 at No. 99. Junior Katrina Leckovic comes in at No. 103 while sophomore Shannon Johnson ranks No. 131. Junior Kellyn Newman is listed at No. 429 with freshman Kelli Van Winkle listed at No. 888.
