COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior Rachel Newren has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for March. It marks the first monthly honor for Newren this season.

The Salt Lake City, Utah, native posted two top-three finishes in March for the Cougars. At the UNLV Invitational, Newren led BYU to a second-place team finish. She shot even par for the tournament, playing especially well the final two rounds. In the second round, she shot 2-under-par to end the day in 10th. The third round she carded an even par 72, complete with three birdies and three bogies, to move up and finish third with a 216 (74-70-72). That was her third top-three finish on the season.

At the Anteater Invitational, Newren won her first tournament of the season and the second of her career finishing with a 229 (78-76-75). In the third round, she birdied three of the first six holes en route to the three-stroke victory. In addition, BYU captured the tournament's top spot.

For the season, Newren has recorded a 74.29 stroke average and ranks sixth in the MWC in stroke average.
