STANFORD, Calif. - The 10th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team is in a tie for seventh place with the University of Arizona with a first round score fo 307 at the 2002 Stanford Pepsi Invitational being held in Stanford, Calif. Oct. 18-20. Leading the tournament is UCLA who shot a 293. Rounding out the top-five includes Washington (295), California (296), Vanderbilt (302), host Stanford is tied with Georgia at 303.

Lobo sophomore's Kailin Downs and Christina Spence are tied for 19th place with a 75 (+3). Individually there is at four-way tie for first place with NMSU's Alena Sharp, Vanderbilt's Courtney Wood, Calis Vikki Laing, and Georgia's Kelly Froelich who are tied with 71s.

New Mexico's Katrina Leckovic is tied for 36th with a 78 (+6), while sophomore Shannon Johnson is tied for 43rd with at 79 (+8). Junior Kellyn Newman is tied for 78th with at 83 (+11).

Second round action begins tomorrow morning at 8:30 PT at the Stanford Golf course with plays to a par 72 on 6,218 yards.
