New Mexico Has One-Shot Lead After First Round of McGuire Invitational Lobo sophomore Shannon Johnson tied for fifth place.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's golf team shot a first round 297 and has a one-shot lead over New Mexico State (298) at the 24th Annual Comcast Dick McGuire Invitational. Rounding out the top-five are Washington (300), Oklahoma (301), Texas and Tulsa who are both tied with 303s. NMSU's Rachel Bailey leads the tournament individually with a first round score of 68 which is a new UNM Championship Course first round individual record. Oklahoma's Lisa Meldrum and NMSU's Kelly Cavanaugh are two back with 70s (-3). In tournament action, UTEP's Linda Chen scored a hole-in-one on the par 3, 149-yard seventh hole. Lobo sophomore Shannon Johnson is tied for fifth place with a one-under 72. Right behind her is sophomore Kailin Downs with an even-par 73 which ties her for seventh. Junior Katrina Leckovic is next tied for 24th along with teammate Christina Spence who both have a first round scores of 76. Junior Kellyn Newman is tied for 46th with a 79. Playing as an individual UNM freshman Kelli Van Winkle scored an 80 in her first tournament with the cherry and silver. This places her tied for 52nd. Second round action of the McGuire begins at 8:30 a.m. off tees 1 and 10 at the UNM Championship Golf Course.
