AUBURN, Wash. - University of New Mexico sophomore Kristi Larsen carded a final round 71 (-1) at the 2002 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships today in Auburn, Wash. The championship is being played at the Washington National Golf Club which plays to a par 72 on 6,273 yards.

Larsen finished with a tournament score of 301 (75-80-75-71 = +13). The sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., qualified as an individual by way of her eighth place finish at the NCAA West Regional. Larsen was one of two individuals not affiliated with the top eight qualifying teams.

Because of team competition indivdiual results will not be available until later this evening. Live results are available at the GolfStat main page, www.golfstat.com or under features section under the UNM women¹s golf page.

Larsen finished the season with a 74.9 stroke average shattering the 20 year old UNM Sophomore record of 76.2 held by former Lobo Sue Sanders (1981-82).

Larsen Season Notes

  • Was named to the Mountain West All-Conference team for the second straight year.

  • Is currently ranked No. 80 in the May 12th GolfWeek poll. Has maintained position in the top-100 the entire spring season.

  • Larsen had a hole in one on the par-3 155 yard 17th hole using an six iron at the Stanford Golf Course during the first round of the NCAA West Regional on May 9.

  • Best finish of the season came at the 2002 MWC Championships where she finished tied for second. Her tournament score of 218 was a career low for the sophomore.

  • Scored a career low round of 68 during the first round of the MWC Championships. The 68 set a new championships low round record.

  • Career stroke average is 75.8 (68 rounds, 5,151 strokes).

  • Has participated in every tournament since becoming a Lobo, 22 to date.

  • This was Larsen¹s second straight NCAA Championships appearance. Last year Larsen participated with the team in the 2001 championship where she finished tied for 72nd with a tournament score of 310 (80-79-77-74). The team placed 21st.
